Deaffest is Britain’s Deaf film and TV festival, launched by Wolverhampton University, Zebra Uno and Light House a decade ago. It aims to give Deaf filmmakers the chance to showcase and be recognised for their skills, and to offer them support.
Over the years, the programme has been extended to include a Young Deaffest competition, the biennial Film Gala awards and the Ben Steiner Bursary.
The fair running alongside all the events is a growing attraction, with stalls from a number of Deaf-related organisations – and including entertainment from Deaf artists and performers.
We’ll be there this year, with a stall, and are looking forward to meeting as many people as possible at this thriving festival. We’re giving away special backpacks to mark the occasion, so do please do come along and say hello if you’re planning on being at Deaffest this year.
The weekend of events kicks off on Friday May 6 at Wolverhampton’s Light House, and continues throughout the weekend with various activities and workshops and film screenings on the Saturday and finishing on Sunday May 8. There’s even a stand-up comedy competition on the Saturday night!
And there are specific events and activities targeting adults and age groups for young people.
This is the first time cSeeker has had a presence at Deaffest, and we know we’re in for a great weekend!
