We were delighted to be at Deaffest this year, on the hottest weekend of 2016 to date.
Deaffest has been going for nearly 10 years, but It was the first time cSeeker had been at Britain’s top Deaf-led film and arts festival, held at the Light House in Wolverhampton, and we really loved it.
The event gave us an outstanding opportunity to meet, interact and network with literally hundreds of people from all walks of life across the Deaf world. So we were pleased to have a stall in the bustling Fair featuring dozens of Deaf-run organisations from artists to businesses for all of the Saturday.
Special thanks to all the stands that had laid on gorgeous cookies, and for the handily placed coffee stand.
We’d had 100 backpacks made for the occasion, and so we were delighted to hand these out, which we did to all festival goers who wanted one. At the same time, it was a great chance to chat to Deaffest visitors about our services offering Communication Support to Deaf students, and we’ll be back in touch with many of them.
We also spoke to a number of young Deaf people, and it was worrying to hear from many of them about the low quality of Communication Support they are receiving at college and university.
What’s more, all our social media accounts went into a bit of an overdrive afterwards, so we were pleased with all the interest and attention the festival generated.
Deaffest brings media artists together and encourages networking and interaction between filmmakers, actors, media experts and film buffs.
But it also offers an unrivalled business and networking opportunity at the same time.
So, thanks Deaffest 16 – and we’ll definitely be back in Wolverhampton next year!
