The contribution Deaf business makes to the UK and its wider economy isn’t always acknowledged or celebrated enough, we think. So we were delighted to be invited to be involved recently in the recent Deaf Business Awards, organised by the Deaf Business Academy and held at the elegant Circo venue on Liverpool’s Albert Dock.
As the Deaf Business Academy Dionne Thomas said: “This is all about shining a light on some of the most awesome and inspiring members of the Deaf business community.”
This classy event was well-attended, and we were delighted to be a part of it and have the chance to promote cSeeker with a presentation about our organisation, and to speak about the Birmingham deaf professional forum we run via Facebook.
We discussed who we are, what we do and why we do it, and how our business model has changed since cSeeker was set up two years ago.
The Deaf Business Academy also gave a presentation about the services they offer to encourage Deaf entrepreneurship, including dozens of specialist learning modules with BSL and English subtitles, covering a wide range of business topics. (This is especially important given that for Deaf people running a business, finding accessible information can often prove to be a challenge.)
Then it was down to the serious business of handing out awards, and we were pleased to play a role in this, with our very own Guy Orlov hosting this part of the evening.
cSeeker was nominated in the Outstanding Development category, and while we didn’t win in the end, we were thrilled for everyone who did!
In all there were three categories, with the other two being Outstanding Contribution Award and Best Deaf Business Award.
Here’s the list in full:
Best UK Deaf Business 2016

Runner up – Reflect BSL
Outstanding Development Award 2016

Outstanding Contribution Award 2016

All in all, this was a great celebratory event, and we loved being in Liverpool for these awards. We’re already looking forward to the 2017 event!
